Description

Do you work in a Major trauma centre? Could you cope with a mass casualty incident like the 2017 Manchester concert bombing? Have you completed a surgical skills trauma course (more than just ATLS /APLS). We have taken the adult cadaveric trauma course and tailored it for children’s surgeons – this is the fourth course of this type following the excellent reviews of our previous years.COURSE OVERVIEWThis course is a two day hands on cadaveric operative workshop for surgeons likely to be involved in the operative management of major trauma in children. The operative techniques focus on management of truncal and junctional zone injuries. The lectures, discussions and case studies explore the principles of damage control surgery in children, working in multispecialty surgical teams and the human factors of managing under extreme pressure. Experience is shared from military and humanitarian surgeons as well as recent major incidents in the UK.COURSE WILL COVERExanguinating haemorrhageTraumatic cardiac arrestPenetrating traumaDamage control principlesDamage control approach to vascular injuriesClamshell thoracotomyPericardial tamponade and penetrating cardiac injuriesManagement of zone 1 to 3 neck injuries especially with regard to vascular injuriesTrauma laparotomy and abdominal packingManagement of liver injuryLaparostomyFasciotomiesPaediatric major trauma case scenariosHuman Factors lectures & decision making under pressureLessons from Manchester Children’s Hospital of the Ariana Grande concert bombingPlease speak to Suren Arul for more information (suren.arul@nhs.net) or to book places please contact the Newcastle Surgical training – Gail Russell on 0191 213 8628 or email gail.russell@nuth.nhs.uk
