Welcome to our Ophthalmology training day for GPs held at a specialist centre at the Sunderland Eye Infirmary, specially designed to address the needs of busy General Practitioners, facilitated by Dr Ajay Kotagiri and colleagues.An interactive full day starting with a morning session of lectures by Consultant Ophthalmologists on different aspects of Ophthalmic care including, When and how to refer Ophthalmic emergenciesHow to examine and evaluate Children with Ophthalmic complaints How to differentiate significant causes of red eye from conjunctivitis Giant Cell Arteritis & Nerve Palsy- Where & how to refer Macular Degeneration & Other Retinal Conditions. Followed by an afternoon practical session, to practice examination skills including fundoscopy and visual field testing. There will be plenty of opportunities to have one to one interaction with Ophthalmologists specialising in different sub-specialties. Course Objectives:To be able to take good Ophthalmic history to arrive at differential diagnosis.Understand the principles of Ophthalmic emergencies and the urgency of the referral.To be able to perform basic ophthalmic examination at GP surgery including fundoscopy.Full programme will be available soon.Registration from 08:30, starting at 09:00 finishing at 17:00.Venue: Sunderland Eye Infirmary, Queen Alexandra Road, Sunderland SR2 9HP.
