This joint injection simulation course provides you with the knowledge and skills to safely prepare for and perform joint injections. This is a highly practical course, combining lecture based teaching with hands on demonstrations and the opportunity for supervised practice – enabling you to become familiar with joint anatomy and the latest techniques.What topics will you cover?Developing your skills in joint injection will take time, but this course aims to provide you with the theory and practical experience of the basic techniques. During the course you will learn about:Considerations prior to injecting, including familiarisation with the anatomy of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee and ankleIndicationsContraindicationsCommunication skills including explaining a procedure to a patient and gaining consentProcedure techniquesPost-Injection CareWho is the course for?This course has been designed for rheumatology trainees ST3/ST4, GP VTS trainees, General Practitioners and medical trainees with an interest in joint injection.How will you learn?This course combines face-to-face and online activities in a seamless and complementary flow of learning.Prior to joining us on the day, you’ll be enrolled on to our bespoke Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) where we encourage you to access a range of pre-reading activities prior to attending the face-to-face session. Within this suite of resources we ask you to complete a short self-assessment to help us tailor the face-to-face session to your existing knowledge and skills.During the face-to-face component of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to further deepen your learning by asking questions of our experienced faculty who will be supervising you as you practice your injection technique and communication skills in our simulated environment. Throughout the day you will be working with part task trainer simulators and professional actors.
