This practical two day course teaches the strategies and skills needed to manage severely injured patients with life-threatening musculoskeletal injuries, often in challenging and time-critical circumstances.

Using unembalmed cadavers, you will practice a range of techniques with an emphasis on rapid control of exsanguinating haemorrhage and resuscitation. This should enable you to deal with major trauma, whether in a major trauma centre or a trauma unit.

After attending this course, you should be able to:

Manage severely injured patients in difficult and time-critical circumstances
Demonstrate knowledge in the resuscitation of the severely injured patient
Safely practice state of the art techniques to establish haemostasis and perform damage control
Perform primary surgical stabilisation of complex open fractures in cadaveric simulation
Gain rapid vascular control in the actively bleeding patient in cadaveric simulation, both in terms of first aid and in actively assisting other members of the team
Work effectively and efficiently in the trauma team with other specialists, such as general and vascular surgeons and anaesthetists
